An individual is facing charges after assaulting two police officers in Thunder Bay.

Officers were sent to Amelia Street West around midnight on Tuesday in response to a report about a weapon.

Someone was holding a hammer and using it to hit walls, and the individual had tried to smash a door.

The suspect was located, and officers asked them to drop the hammer.

The suspect opted to approach the officers and throw a screwdriver towards them.

Officers were able to arrest the suspect a short while later.

As a result, a 41-year-old is facing the following charges:

  • Possession of a weapon for a dangerous purpose
  • Assault with a weapon (two counts)
  • Assault peace officer (two counts)
  • Resisting arrest
  • Breach of probation (two counts)

The accused appeared in court on Tuesday, and they remain in custody with a future court date.
