This will be the first year for the Maamawe Summer Festival & Showcase in Thunder Bay.

The show will happen all day this Saturday, June 25, 12 pm – 9 pm, at Marina Park.

According to the City’s website, “the Festival promotes inclusion, diversity and the well-being of all community members as well as those visiting our region”.

There will be lots of local talent that will focus on Indigenous artists in our community.

In a statement from the City’s Indigenous Liaison James Wilkinson, he said that this community celebration lead by the City has been a vision of 10 plus years in the making.

Activities will include an opening ceremony at 2 pm with prayer and teachings conducted by Elder Beatrice Twance-Hynes, a Tipi and Sacred Fire, Women’s Hand Drum Group with songs and teachings, information booths, food vendors, and crafters.
