An 18-year-old man has died after police say his vehicle left the road in Colchester County.

First responders were called to Highway 289 in Middle Stewiacke around 10 p.m. Wednesday.

“Upon arrival at the scene, RCMP officers learned that a Honda Civic was travelling northbound towards Truro when it left the roadway and came to a rest on its roof,” Mounties said in a news release on Saturday

The driver, an 18-year-old man from Upper Musquodoboit, suffered serious injuries and later died in the hospital.

Highway 289 was closed for several hours but has since reopened.

The cause of the crash remains under investigation, according to police.
