March Break has officially arrived, and you can almost hear the collective exhale across Thunder Bay. After months of early alarms, packed lunches, homework battles, hallway hustle, and the daily grind of school life, this week is a well‑earned pause for students, teachers, and school staff alike.

For the kids, it’s a chance to sleep in, recharge, and swap textbooks for snowbanks, screens, or snacks — sometimes all three at once. For teachers and staff, it’s a moment to step back from the constant motion of the classroom, catch their breath, and refill the tank before the final stretch of the school year.

But the big question floating around every kitchen table and staff room this week is simple: How are you spending March Break?

Staying Close to Home?

A lot of families are leaning into the classic staycation — and honestly, there’s something perfect about it. Movie marathons. Board games. Pancakes for dinner. A little extra sleep. Maybe a trip to the Canada Games Complex, a skate at the Gardens, a walk around Boulevard Lake, or skating at one of over 30 outdoor rinks (the ones that are open, LOL). Sometimes the best memories happen without ever leaving town.

Or Jetting Off Somewhere Tropical?

Of course, some families are trading snow boots for sandals and heading straight for the sun. Jamaica, Cancun, Punta Cana — anywhere with palm trees and drinks that come with tiny umbrellas. If you’re one of the lucky ones boarding a plane this week, enjoy every warm breeze and beachside moment. Soak it in for the rest of us who are still chipping ice off the car.

However You Spend It…

March Break is a reminder that everyone — kids, teachers, parents, staff, bus drivers, school crossing guards — needs a reset now and then. Whether you’re building sandcastles or building pillow forts, this week is about slowing down, reconnecting, and enjoying a little freedom from the routine.

So here’s to a well‑deserved break. Here’s to the families staying cozy at home. Here’s to the lucky ones chasing sunshine. And here’s to everyone who keeps our schools running — enjoy the pause, you’ve earned it.
