The search continues for an ice sailor reported missing in southeastern New Brunswick.

Search efforts began in the Grande-Digue area on Wednesday for the 64-year-old man.

Lt.-Commander Len Hickey with the Joint Rescue Coordination Centre (JRCC) in Halifax said the initial 911 call went to the RCMP.

Hickey said Mounties contacted JRCC for assistance around 6:20 p.m. Wednesday, and they dispatched a Cormorant helicopter to the scene.

The senior public affairs officer said stood down overnight when the RCMP helicopter took over the search.

Shediac RCMP, which is now the lead agency on the file, were not immediately available to comment.

More to come.
