EMS services in Thunder Bay are making sure we can all get our vaccinations.

In-home vaccinations are being administered across the city for residents that are unable to leave their home or make it out to a vaccination clinic.

Shane Muir is the Superintendent of Community Paramedicine for Superior North EMS, and explains more.

“We have a couple dedicated paramedics that go out and work closely with the Thunder Bay District Health Unit to arrange appointments for those who are homebound and cannot make it out to a clinic. So we send out a couple paramedics to do an in-home vaccination, and they do the vaccination right there in their home.”

Muir goes on to say the paramedics will stay for 15 minutes after the vaccination to ensure there are no immediate side effects.

“Paramedics will sit around for the waiting period. They also carry a kit that will assist if there are any adverse reactions.”

The mobile vaccinations formed out of the COVID-19 taskforce, and so far have visited around 250 homes in the area.
