The city of Moncton has been home to a lot of hockey, from hosting the World Juniors to this year’s Quebec Maritime Junior Hockey League (QMJHL) entry draft

Now, Moncton residents can witness the best Canadian Hockey League (CHL) players in this year’s CHL/NHL Top Prospects Game.

The first top prospects game to be held in New Brunswick, the best 40 players from the Ontario Hockey League, Western Hockey League, and the Quebec Maritime Junior Hockey League will be divided into two teams to play in front of NHL scouts and general managers attending.

Coaching team red is Daniel Lacroix, the head coach of the Moncton Wildcats.

Shane Porter, director of Events Moncton, believes the city hosting hockey events such as this makes the city a certificated hockey town.

“Moncton has a rich hockey history. We’ve got great venues for hockey, we’ve had some great success with hockey over the years with a great team and partners like the Moncton Wildcats and the Aigles Bleus at the University of Moncton,” said Porter.

“I don’t know if we’re trying to become a hockey town. I think we are a hockey town and I think some great opportunities presented themselves and we’re always ready to host.”

The game takes place at 7:30 p.m. Wednesday at the Avenir Centre. Porter said additional events will be taking place at the Avenur Centre Plaza, including live music and skating rinks.
