Federal budget 2024 promises funding to help keep costs down for those using bridges and ferries in Atlantic Canada.
Marine Atlantic Inc. will receive $2.5 million over two years for its Ferry Services Contribution program to freeze fares for services between New Brunswick, Nova Scotia, Prince Edward Island, and Eastern Quebec.
It also gets $124.1 million to support ferry operations between Newfoundland and Labrador and Nova Scotia to help keep future fares affordable.
For 2024 to 2026, $13.7 million has also been budgeted for Transport Canada which operates the Confederation Bridge. It will help negotiate a continued toll freeze.
