A messy and windy day has knocked out power to more than 10,000 homes and businesses.

The majority are in Hants County and Halifax areas as many head home at supper time on Monday.

Environment Canada is forecasting wind gusts up to 80 km/h along with sporadic heavy rain to continue into the evening but it is expected to calm down later tonight.

Nova Scotia Power has crews ready to respond to get the lights back on when it is safe to get crews up in buckets to get to the lines.

The peak of storm led to 25,000 outages.
