Today we celebrate the 8 track tape. They were the way to listen to music from the mid-1960s through the early 80s. Invented by Bill Lear in 1964, the magnetic tape sound recording technology was offered as an option by Ford Motor Company to be installed if you wanted on three of its 1966 models- Thunderbird, Mustang and Lincoln, and even an upgrade option on the 1967 model.
They were available in many cars and trucks. I remember listening to Meat Loaf’s Bat Out of Hell on the school bus on the way to high school, and at home to Supertramp, Rush and my sister‘s copy of Saturday Night Fever.
A different way to listen to music, where it would fade out, wait for the click, and then back to the song. Did you have any 8-tracks? What were your favorites?
