Just in time for the North Stars home opener and the upcoming Lakehead Thunderwolves season, the Fort William Gardens (FWG) has unveiled their new scoreboard.
It has features such as a instant replay and a 360 degree camera right under the score clock.
Sport and Community Development Supervisor Paul Burke says this will modernize games at FWG.
“This is not your grandfathers scoreboard,” says Burke. “We have had training for the North Stars and the Thunderwolves representatives to get some training on it. We’re looking at other options so other groups can use it as well. It brighten ups the space, it’s the first thing you notice when you walk into the arena now, and it’s really going to change the game day experience and really modernize the gameday experience here.”
Director of Business Development Mike Tallari for the North Stars says this is going to be exciting for players, and those in the stands.
“When the fans go home at the end of the night, whether it be some kids seeing their face up on the score clock, or perhaps a 50/50 winner jumping and throwing their tickets, it’s going to be a talking point,” says Tallari. “When they go home sitting around the dinner table, or perhaps sharing a story with their grandma or grandpa, it’s going to create memories.”
The improvement comes after the city has committed to providing updates to Fort William Gardens that will expand the facility’s lifespan by 15 years.
