It was a winning weekend for a Thunder Bay athlete.
The Silver Dollar Deadlift World Championships were held over the weekend, and local title holder Ben Thompson was able to keep his grip on this position.
Thompson lifted a whopping 1270 lbs for his deadlift, and set a new open class world record at the same time.
Given that the contest was submitted virtually as to prevent the spread of the virus, there were strict rules for competitors.
The Silver Dollar Deadlift is one of the original tests of strength and has been around since the 1800s. Recently the world record has been held at 1222lb, but in this years event the world record was broken by 4 athletes.
