Concerns about oversight and the delivery of police services to Thunder Bay.

Those reasons have led to the Ontario Civilian Police Commission (OCPC) to announce the appointing of an Administrator to the Thunder Bay Police Service Board (TBPSB) as of April 19th.

The OCPC has issued an interim Order to appoint Mr. Malcolm Mercer for a period of six months, which could be extended if necessary.

A statement from Tribunals Ontario spokesperson Janet Deline indicates that the Administrator’s role will include restoring proper governance and to re-establish public confidence in the board and the police’s ability to deliver adequate and effective policing services in the community.

Deline added that as the investigation into the Thunder Bay Police Service is ongoing, the OCPC cannot comment further on the specifics of this matter at this time.
