The light at the end of the tunnel slowly grows brighter, as more Ontarians will be able to re-book their second COVID-19 vaccine appointment.

The province continues to speed up the vaccine process for more groups, and those who got their first shot on or before May 9th are next in line. That group can book or re-schedule their second appointment starting on June 21st.

Then, during the week of June 28th, all Ontario adults will be able to move their second dose up sooner, to a minimum of 28 days after their first shot.

Health Minister Christine Elliott says as of June 17th, more than three-quarters of all adults in the province have received at least one shot, while 19 per cent are fully vaccinated.

Although vaccines became available less than a month ago for youth aged 12 to 17, nearly half of that age group have received their first shot.

Solicitor General Sylvia Jones is urging you not to be picky when it comes to your second dose, whether you received Moderna or Pfizer first.

She says the data shows it’s safe and effective to receive different vaccines for your first and second doses.

“So please, as you get that opportunity to get your second dose, you will know what you are receiving, but take it,” Jones says, “Because it will protect you and your loved ones.”

The Delta Variant is still a concern in various regions across the province.

Waterloo has been hit particularly hard by the variant, though the province is finalizing support for the region including pop-up clinics in the neighbourhoods worse affected.

Ontario has seen a solid stream of vaccines delivered in June so far, which will continue the rest of the month. This includes an extra one million Moderna doses set to arrive Thursday night.
