Part-time staff at two Halifax universities will be on the picket lines, Thursday.
Negotiations fell through between Saint Mary’s University and CUPE 3912, Wednesday, as members fight for better wages and job security.
The union said on its website, it was a “long, final day of conciliation” and they were unable to reach a fair agreement.
Workers will join more than 150 part-time staff from Mount Saint Vincent University, who walked off the job, Wednesday.

“Like many workers in this sector – and across the province – our members at the Mount are struggling to make ends meet,” said President Lauren McKenzie. “They are responsible for educating the next generation, for being experts in history, economics, chemistry, you name it, but they can’t even put food on the table. Is that fair?”
The union had been in talks with Saint Mary’s, The Mount and Dalhousie this week, but only reached a tentative agreement with Dal on Monday.
The deal with Dal, the union said, was “fair” and “will set us up to continue to make progressive gains in future rounds of bargaining.”
