The Royal Canadian Legion is hoping to see crosswalks near its branches across Canada repainted.

It is part of an initiative to commemorate the Legion’s 100th anniversary in 2026.

A request to paint a crosswalk near the Fort Frances Branch comes before town council on Monday.

The Fort Frances Legion came to be in 1927.

A few potential designs are being offered.

One has a silhouette of a lone soldier above the words ‘Lest We Forget’ with the crosswalk in red and white.

Another has a line of silhouetted soldiers walking across a blue and white striped crosswalk.

A third option has maple leafs within the crosswalk and the words ‘In honour of those who have sacrificed.’

In a letter to the town, the Legion notes that a number of communities have already committed to painting crosswalks.

Those in Ontario include Barrie, Cochrane, Hamilton and Sarnia.
