Early results are starting to come in from the 45th general federal election.
Polls have closed across Atlantic Canada — the first region to report results.
The Liberals are leading in 22 ridings, followed by the Conservatives in 10.
A party will need 172 seats across the country in order to form a majority government.
At dissolution in late March, the Liberals had 152 seats while the Conservatives had 120 seats.
The Bloc Québécois had 33 seats, followed by the NDP with 24 and the Green Party with two.
There were three independent MPs in the House of Commons and four seats were vacant.
Polls in the Eastern, Central and Mountain time zones close at 9:30 p.m. ET, followed by polls in the Pacific time zone 30 minutes later.
