N-B Power says it’s too soon to say how long some New Brunswickers may remain without power.

More than 48,000 homes and businesses are impacted, down from over 100,000 a day ago.

Vice-president Nicole Poirier says their initial focus is restoring power to critical services such as hospitals,” Once that is complete, we will make repairs that will return service to the largest number of customers in the least amount of time, such as high-density housing and large neighbourhoods.”

Over 700 people are currently supporting restoration efforts.”For each outage, a team has to assess the damage and make the necessary repairs. In some cases, one to three vehicles are needed to make the repairs,” Poirier says.

Crews are still in the process of doing assessments.

“I would say right now, the early assessments are around damage related to trees on our infrastructure, and lines down, that would probably be the majority of our outages at this point in time,” Poirier adds.
