PRO Kids is expecting an uptick in those wanting to get involved in the Thunder Bay program.
Officials, including Chair Kathy Ball, presented to council Monday night which was the first time they have been before the elected body since 2011.
“We anticipate an increase in demand for our programs as we see activities begin to open up.” said Ball. “Now more than ever the youth who persevered through COVID with minimal social activities will need an outlet.”
The program provides support for families who cannot afford to put their kids in local sports, arts, or cultural activities.
Ball was joined by Joshua Swarengen, who once was a child in the program and now serving on the board of directors.
Mayor Bill Mauro stated he was very happy with PRO Kids, and thankful the program was implemented.
“Thank you to the board and volunteers, it’s really amazing, and to councilors who first established this program many years ago for their great foresight and helping to support such a great program,” Mauro noted.
McIntyre Ward Councilor Albert Aiello stated, “We can’t underestimate the importance of keeping kids active and physically fit.” said Aiello, “One of the huge things that PRO Kids does is really level the playing field, for all children.”
PRO Kids has helped over 25,000 kids get involved in activities in the community.
