A winner has been selected to design, build, finance, and maintain the Thunder Bay Correctional Complex project.

EllisDon Infrastructure Justice was chosen after a request for proposals process that began on March 29, 2018.

Infrastructure Ontario (IO) and the Ministry of the Solicitor General announced a winner on March 31, four years after the process began.

A statement noted that contract negotiations will be hammered out in the coming weeks, with final design and construction to begin thereafter.

The actual construction start and completion dates will be finalized once negotiations with EllisDon Infrastructure Justice are finalized.

The plan was first teased by then Thunder Bay MPP Bill Mauro, who unveiled money was approved to start work on a 325-bed multi-purpose correctional centre.
