Sad news with the passing of musician and pianist Bobbie Nelson, who died yesterday at age 91. She is the older sister of Willie Nelson, who released a heartfelt statement on social media after her death.

Bobbie was raised, along with Willie by their grandparents and learned to play piano at an early age. She was a member of his band for over five decades and was a staple of  his live performances.

Bobbie Nelson was one of the first women musicians that I ever saw on stage. She was the first example I had of a woman playing music while also having a family. I’m honored to have known her. My deepest sympathies to the Nelson family.
