A second person is facing charges in a murder case dating back to 2022 in southwestern Nova Scotia.

Police arrested 33-year-old Dillon Burton Deveau of Yarmouth on Tuesday. He is the latest suspect charged with second-degree murder in the death of 64-year-old Vernon Doucet.

Last month, 34-year-old Tyler Langford of Weymouth was also arrested and charged with second-degree murder.

The arrests stem from an incident at a home in Concession, N.S., in February of 2022 when police found Doucet badly injured.

He later died in hospital from his injuries.

Doucet’s gravestone damaged after first arrest

A few days after Langford was arrested, the stone monument for Doucet had been removed from a cemetery in Comeauville and spray painted.

RCMP in Meteghan suspected it was related to the initial charges and at the time expected another person would be arrested.

It’s the second odd occurrence connected to Doucet’s murder.

In March of 2022, a mannequin was found hanging over Highway 101 in New Edinburgh with “Just for Vernon” written on it.

Both Langford and Deveau will next appear in Digby court on July 18.
