Sentencing has been delayed for a Cape Breton couple who sexually assaulted a young girl in 2020.

Daryl and Shelley Digout were found guilty in February of sexual assault, interference and exploitation.

On Wednesday, the prosecution recommended they serve seven years in a federal prison.

But the couple claims their right to a timely trial was violated.

They are representing themselves in court, so a judge granted them three weeks to consult a lawyer.

They will appear in court again on May 27th.
