A severe thunderstorm watch has been issued for parts of Nova Scotia.

Environment Canada says thunderstorms are tracking toward Cumberland, Kings, Queens, Shelburne and Yarmouth counties Thursday morning.

Strong winds and localized torrential rainfall may occur with up to 25 mm per hour or possibly higher.

Heavy downpours can cause flash floods and water pooling on roads

The forecaster also advises that lightning kills and injures Canadians every year.
