A popular resident of Shubenacadie’s Wildlife Park has sadly passed away.

The park’s beloved moose was a favourite of many visitors over the years.

In a post on Facebook on Wednesday, the moose suffered a medical event over the Labour Day long weekend and never recovered.

She was a fixture tenant for nine years and arrived at the park as an orphan from Newfoundland in the summer of 2015.

“We are deeply saddened to announce the passing of our beloved moose, who was just over 9 years old. Our staff quickly acted to give her the best care and treatment,” the park wrote in the post. “Unfortunately, on Monday she was showing no signs of improvement, and her health had rapidly declined, resulting in the decision to euthanize her.”

It’s clear people felt the loss as the wildlife park’s post has hundreds of comments and was shared over 600 times on Wednesday night after only a few hours.

Moose have an average lifespan of eight to ten years and she lived her entire live in captivity.

“She was a favourite of many visitors, and we are extremely heartbroken to share this news.”

The park does not give the animals names as they want to reinforce the message that their animals are not domesticated or pets.

The Shubenacadie Wildlife Park opened in 1954.
