An approaching winter storm could bring tricky travel conditions to much of the region on Friday.

Environment Canada said there is the potential for more than four hours of freezing rain in some areas.

The national weather agency has issued a special weather statement for nearly all of southern New Brunswick, except along the Fundy coast.

  • Fredericton and Southern York County
  • Grand Lake and Queens County
  • Moncton and Southeast New Brunswick
  • Oromocto and Sunbury County
  • St. Stephen and Northern Charlotte County
  • Sussex – Kennebecasis Valley and Kings County

“The track of the low pressure system potentially causing the freezing rain is very uncertain,” said the statement, issued early Wednesday.

“However, a prolonged period of freezing rain is certainly a possibility on Friday and the public is advised to monitor future forecasts.”

The freezing rain is expected to begin early Friday morning before changing to snow later in the day.
