Most of Nova Scotia is waking up with fresh snow on the ground on Monday morning.

Throughout Sunday, around 10 centimetres fell, which has led to some cancellations and concerns with road conditions for the start of the week.

As the snowfall was prolonged throughout Sunday into Monday morning, major highways and main streets have mostly been cleared of snow. Some smaller streets may still be covered, and drivers are urged to exercise caution throughout Monday.

 

Closures and Delays

Halifax Regional Centre for Education (HRCE)

School closures
Due to poor road conditions inland, the following Families of Schools are closed today:

  • Bay View High

  • Eastern Shore District High

  • Marine Drive

  • Musquodoboit Rural High

Delayed opening
All other HRCE schools will open two hours late to allow for cleanup.

This means:

  • Bused students will be picked up two hours later than their regular time

  • Lunch and dismissal will run on regular schedules

  • EXCEL programs are cancelled for the morning only

HRCE says the decision was based on:

  • Overnight snowfall of 10 to 15 centimetres

  • Ongoing snow clearing on roads, sidewalks and school grounds

South Shore Regional Centre for Education (SSRCE)

All SSRCE schools will operate on a two-hour delayed start today due to road conditions.

Back road closures are also in effect in Lunenburg and Queens counties.

Strait Regional Centre for Education (SRCE)

A system-wide shutdown is in effect today due to weather conditions.

  • Classes are cancelled at all SRCE schools

  • All schools, buildings and worksites are closed

  • This includes the Mulgrave Operations Centre, bus garages and the Regional Office at SAERC

Nova Scotia Community College (NSCC)

The following NSCC campuses and learning centres are closed today due to weather:

  • Akerley Campus (closed until 11 a.m., reassessment at 9 a.m.)

  • Cumberland Campus

  • Amherst Learning Centre

  • Institute of Technology Campus (closed until 11 a.m., reassessment at 9 a.m.)

  • Ivany Campus (closed until 11 a.m., reassessment at 9 a.m.)

  • Aviation Institute (closed until 11 a.m., reassessment at 9 a.m.)

  • Pictou Campus

  • Strait Area Campus

  • Wagmatcook Learning Centre

  • Truro Campus
