Another jump in cases associated with the St. Martin School outbreak means that students will not see a classroom this week.
11 additional COVID-19 cases have been added, the total now sitting at 20. This means that the virtual learning format will extend until at least Nov. 29.
There was drive-through testing at the school on Saturday, with over 180 staff and students attending. The results so far have been negative, and the Thunder Bay District Health Unit is considering this a good sign.
Local Medical Officer of Health Dr. Janet DeMille released a statement Monday night:
This is a complex school outbreak as indicated by the number and timing of cases, exposures and impacted cohorts. As well, ongoing case finding and follow-up continues. In collaboration, TBDHU, the school and school board have made the decision for the school to remain closed to in-person learning until Monday, November 29th. This was deemed to be the best option to effectively manage and contain the outbreak while ensuring the safety of staff and students.
The statement concludes by saying further information will be provided in the days to come.
