Environment Canada has issued snowfall warnings and special weather statements across New Brunswick, with significant snow expected to begin Thursday morning.

Areas along the Bay of Fundy will see around 10 centimetres while the Moncton region could get 10 to 15 centimetres. To the north, up to 25 centimetres of snow is possible.

School Closures:

Areas to the north and central regions are currently under snowfall warnings, including:

  • Fredericton and Southern York County
  • Oromocto and Sunbury County
  • Grand Lake and Queens County
  • Kent County
  • Kouchibouguac National Park

Snowfall rates of 2 to 4 cm per hour may occur over some locations. Snow is expected to mix with ice pellets this afternoon and evening over Queens, Sunbury, and southern York counties.

Special weather statements are in effect for:

  • Sussex
  • Kennebecasis Valley and Kings County
  • Saint John and County
  • St. Stephen and northern Charlotte County
  • Grand Manan and coastal Charlotte County
  • Moncton and southeast New Brunswick
  • Fundy National Park

Strong winds will continue on Friday with gusts 60 to 70 kilometres per hour, or even 80 kilometres in exposed areas in the south, according to Environment Canada.

The weather agency is also monitoring another weather system for Sunday, which could bring more winter weather to the region.
