A recent survey by Dalhousie University looked at Halloween candy.
It is a huge part of celebrations for Halloween, but the cost this year is up over 13 percent this year.
It is also estimated that Canadians this year will be spending an average of $22.40 on candy, which equates to $486 million
spent on candy for the entire country, during the month of October 2022.
Over 5500 Canadians were surveyed between October 12 and 17, 2022 by Dalhousie University’s Agri-Food Analytics Lab.
When buying treats, 62 percent said they only buy the type of candy that they would also eat themselves.
As for how many items they typically give out, two per trick-or-treater was the most popular answer.
Once Canadians close the door on October 31st and turn off the porch light what are the plans for the leftover candy?
Sixty-seven percent of Canadians say they will eat it, and around four percent will be giving it away.
As for choosing a location to buy candy, Walmart is the number one option for Canadians, at almost 23 percent, followed by Costco at over 21 percent.
Discount grocery stores are third at almost 21 percent, followed by traditional grocery stores.
