A Sussex RCMP officer charged with distributing intimate images without consent will return to court next month.

Const. Jonathan Murphy, who did not appear in court for his first appearance on Friday, is scheduled to return on March 28 to enter a plea.

Murphy is accused of taking and sharing images of a male in custody without his knowledge. The Serious Incident Response Team (SiRT) said this happened in April 2023.

This development follows a year-long investigation that led to charges against Murphy. SiRT received a referral from the RCMP J Division on January 29, 2024.

SiRT investigates matters of public interest that arise from the actions of any New Brunswick police officer, including serious injury, death, sexual assault, and intimate partner violence.
