The Dew Drop Inn is inviting Thunder Bay residents to enjoy a home-cooked meal while supporting one of the city’s most important community organizations.

Joining me in studio recently was CEO of United Way Thunder Bay, Albert Brulé, who shared details about the upcoming Take Me Home Dinner, a fundraiser that helps support the incredible work being done by the Dew Drop Inn every day.

Coming up on October 21 from 4:00 p.m. to 6:30 p.m., the event offers a delicious meal featuring the Dew Drop Inn’s signature meatloaf dinner complete with mashed potatoes, gravy, roasted vegetables, and a choice of dessert. Guests can choose between takeout or dining in, with each meal priced at just $20.

“The Dew Drop Inn is providing meals every single day,” said Brulé. “This is one example of the amazing food they prepare. You can take a meal home for yourself and your family, while also helping provide meals for people in need.”

For those who want to give a little extra, there’s also a Pay It Forward option. Community members can purchase a meal for someone facing food insecurity, even if they can’t attend the event themselves.

And this year, every contribution goes even further.

Thanks to the generous support of NWMO, all meal purchases, donations and Pay It Forward contributions will be matched dollar-for-dollar up to $5,000.

“It’s really a win-win,” Brulé explained. “You’re getting a delicious meal for your family, providing meals for others, and helping support the vital work of the Dew Drop Inn.”

The event also offers a unique dine-in experience. Guests can enjoy their meal in the same welcoming space used daily by Dew Drop Inn clients, providing a firsthand look at the care and compassion shown by staff and volunteers.

Having volunteered there myself in the past, I can attest to the incredible operation running behind the scenes. Watching the staff and volunteers work together is like watching a well-oiled machine. Before you know it, hundreds of meals have been prepared and served with efficiency, dignity, and kindness.
