The Township of Terrace Bay is no longer under a boil-water advisory after a severe lightning strike damaged its water treatment plant.

The plant lost power early Monday morning, and the advisory was lifted around 5:45 Thursday afternoon.

Lightning damaged a Hydro One transformer that supplied the plant, along with some electrical components inside the facility.

Davis says Hydro One and the Ontario Clean Water Agency (OCWA) worked quickly to get the plant running again within a day of the strike.

However, the township was put under the boil-water order this week while waiting for testing of three water samples to confirm the water was safe.

He explains their next step is to reduce the chance of going offline again.

“We’ll be looking with OCWA to see if there’s anything we need to do to improve or enhance our system for safety and continuity of water to residents without interruption,” he says.
