This morning on the show, you helped us take a little trip down memory lane. It all started with a simple conversation about the petition to bring back the big yellow bucket at the North End splash pad – the one that used to dump water on kids’ heads and send them screaming with joy. But because of the noise, it was removed in 2020 and replaced with a water wheel, and for a lot of families, it just hasn’t been the same. Nearly 400 people have already signed on, saying the bucket wasn’t just a feature… it was a destination and suddenly the whole city was reminiscing about the places we miss, the spots we grew up in, and the hangouts that shaped Thunder Bay.
Once the texts and calls started rolling in, the nostalgia floodgates opened. Listeners were sharing everything from old arcades to long‑gone restaurants to those places that only Thunder Bay locals truly understand.
And then Amy called.
Amy brought up a place that instantly lit up the phone lines: Wheelies. If you grew up here, you remember it – the music, the lights, the roller skates, the birthday parties, the absolute chaos of trying to look cool while not falling on your face. Amy told us how much she loved it, how it was the spot back in the day, and how sad she was when it finally closed.
It was one of those perfect radio moments where everyone listening went, “Oh my gosh… I haven’t thought about Wheelies in YEARS.”
So, for anyone who missed it, here’s the audio clip from our chat with Amy – the moment that sent Thunder Bay straight back to its roller‑rink glory days:
AUDIO: Our conversation with Amy about Wheelies
Thanks to everyone who shared their memories this morning. Thunder Bay has changed a lot over the years, but the stories — and the places that shaped us — stick around.
And if you’ve got another spot or thing you miss, keep them coming. Send me an email below…we’ll keep the nostalgia rolling.
