Join me this week on The Retro Lounge. The djembe is a goblet-shaped drum, originally from West Africa and fun to play, and is an important instrument in creating music. I’ll be putting the spotlight on other instruments that have shown up in classic tunes, like a mandolin on a Goo Goo Dolls movie hit; the man behind the great saxophone solo on a Gerry Rafferty tune; the kazoo shows up with Weird Al Yankovic and Paul McCartney; horn sections appear on records by Genesis and Chicago; songs with cowbell including a classic by Blue Oyster Cult given a boost by a Saturday Night Live skit; harmonica from Tom Petty and on a mexican radio; more sax from Steely Dan, Rolling Stones and Supertramp along with bells and whistles, a classic synthesizer solo described by Emerson, Lake and Palmer; pianos, a flugelhorn, a banjo and more.
The Retro Lounge is powered by Backstage, Thunder Bay’s newest music and accessory store at 215 Red River Road.
