The City of Thunder Bay has partnered with the Lakehead Social Planning Council, to launch an affordable access to recreation and transit pilot program to reduce financial barriers for eligible residents.

The three-year program is open to residents whose after-tax household income is at or below the low-income cut-off.

Eligible residents can apply for both the Recreation and Transit programs for all adults in their household through one annual application.

“Our goal is to help ensure everyone has access to our programs and services,” said Leah Prentice, Director of Recreation & Culture. “We encourage eligible individuals to take advantage of this program so that they can participate in services that are important to their needs, health, and well-being and may otherwise be financially out of reach.”

Approved individuals aged 18 and over will receive a $350 credit towards eligible City of Thunder Bay recreation and culture programs, facility bookings, and services.

Individuals aged 25-59 years may also purchase an Adult Monthly Bus Pass at half the current fee.

Applications for 2024 will be accepted beginning November 1, on an ongoing basis, passes and credits will be available on a first-come, first-served basis.
