A scary incident for a couple of boaters on Lake Superior.

Thunder Bay Fire Rescue say they received a 911 call around 6:30 Tuesday night.

A boat, located near the Mission Marsh viewing area, hit something in the water disabling the engine.

The occupants tried to paddle to shore, but they were overcome by offshore winds, blowing them quite a distance into the open lake.

Two rescue boats were dispatched: a Zodiac from Mission Island and the Harbour Rescue vessel.

They were able to locate the stranded boaters, who were uninjured.

The Coast Guard was contacted to tow the disabled boat safely to shore.

Thunder Bay Fire Rescue says the incident is a good reminder to always wear life jackets, be mindful of weather conditions, and ensure that your equipment is in good working order before heading out on the water.
