Thunder Bay — Superior North MPP Lise Vaugeois says her team is looking into reports that Red Rock residents haven’t been able to make calls since May 9.
“Bell hasn’t offered any kind of explanation and they haven’t said who is affected,” Vaugeois said. “It’s a safety issue. But unfortunately we haven’t been able to get more information from Bell than anybody else.”
Red Rock resident Jennifer Berube says her Facebook feed is full of neighbours complaining about the outage.
“It’s affecting a lot of people. It’s almost daily that I see posts on Facebook asking if everybody is still experiencing [the outage],” Berube said. “Red Rock is an aging population, which doesn’t help. People are missing appointments, they can’t get in touch with family or friends.”
Berube said calls are connecting, but the audio sounds muffled—like the other person is “in a tunnel”—and is impossible to understand. Berube says calls on Wi-Fi, text messages and data service still work properly.
Vaugeois says Bell is offering a $100 credit to all customers affected by the outage, but the service provider hasn’t identified when service will be restored.
The issue may extend beyond Bell customers, as Berube shared Facebook posts from Koodo and Telus users reporting problems making phone calls.
