Adam Sergerie has a sense of relief that the province he lives in is lifting all COVID-19 public health restrictions.
Sergerie, who’s from Thunder Bay, teaches at St Edmond International Baccalaureate World School in Edmonton and serves as President of Operations with the Sherwood Park Crusaders of the Alberta Junior Hockey League, (AJHL).
When it comes to hockey season, the league is aiming for the regular season to start as late as Friday, October 1 with the possibility of moving things up to the middle of September.
“My role keeps me busy on the business side, in terms of locking stuff up for the upcoming season,” said Sergerie. “Our coaches and general manager have been busy planning camps… we had plans in place for the camp but we didn’t want to send anything to the parents and players about concrete dates just because, for the last year and half, things have been constantly changing and we’ve had to pivot accordingly.”

Sergerie went onto say, “When we knew things were going to open up again, our staff got together and identified players that we wanted to invite to the camps. It was busy few weeks for our hockey staff answering emails and looking after administration work, but our camps are pretty much full and we’re looking forward to getting back on the ice.”
Alberta enters Stage 3 of its Open for Summer plan Thursday, which means capacity limits for businesses and places of worship will be eliminated as well as restrictions on indoor and outdoor social gatherings.
“Whether it’s going into a restaurant, grocery store, gas station, whatever it is…not having to worry about having a mask in the vehicle, it’ll be nice,” remarked Sergerie. “From my understanding everything is as normal as we think of before the pandemic, with an eye on the numbers if they start to climb.”
