Carrie Underwood returns for a ninth season singing the opener to Sunday Night Football on NBC. She released a teaser clip of her singing the theme, without any backing instruments on social media to get the word out for the broadcasts that start September 12th.

The song Waiting All Day for Sunday Night is a play on Joan Jett‘s I Hate Myself for Loving You. This is the third song Underwood performed during her nine years for Sunday night football. She continued Faith Hill‘s tradition of singing Waiting All Day, but changed it up in 2016 to Oh, Sunday Night based on her duet with Miranda Lambert, Somethin’ Bad. It was changed to Game On in 2018, an original she helped co-write. We’ll find out soon how different it’ll be from the opener in 2020.
