As the heat wave continues, Thunder Bay city officials are reminding you about local shelters and other services.
They say that like during this January’s cold snap, Shelter House on George Street and the Salvation Army shelter on Cumberland Street North are relaxing some restrictions and letting people remain inside.
The city is also asking you to check in on anyone you know who may be more vulnerable to heat stroke or heat exhaustion.
It’ll begin rolling out a Severe Weather Response Plan, based on this year’s Cold Weather Plan, which will include different alert levels to help coordinate responses from local agencies.
It’s focused on helping people who are experiencing homelessness, especially while many places to get out of the weather, like libraries and malls, are closed or less accessible during the pandemic.
Over the coming week, you’ll be able to sign up for alerts to make sure you know about severe weather and how to connect with local services.
