Demanding that the climate take more of a front seat as an election issue.

Dozens gathered out front of city hall on Tuesday afternoon as part of a coast-to-coast demonstration organized by 350 Canada, the country’s chapter of an international organization.

“It’s an event to give attention and pressure during the federal election that has been announced to make sure that climate, climate issues, climate justice, climate action, the climate crisis, everything that is so important to our future is the number one priority during the election, and that leaders are debating it that are now happening,” explains organizer Kelsey Agnew.

Agnew goes on to mention, “I just don’t think there’s enough bold action happening amongst the leaders. With the recent IPCC report that has been released, where it is unequivocally human influence driving climate change and driving the climate crisis, we need to have leaders that are treating this like the most important crisis that our time, our people, our kids, our neighbours are facing, and I just don’t see that happening.”

350 Canada is demanding on their website that all parties and candidates deliver:

A moratorium on fossil fuel expansion, including stopping construction on existing expansion projects
An urgent and robust just transition plan that leaves no one behind and moves us past fossil fuels.
