Every morning before most of Thunder Bay has even hit the snooze button, our Public Works crews are already out there — checking roads, clearing roads, keeping water flowing, and making sure the city wakes up ready for a new day.

This week is National Public Works Week.  A week where, municipalities across the country – and here in our city…take the time to thank the hard-working crews who keep our city moving, 24 hours a day, 7 days a week, 365 days a year.

For example – our Roads Operations Team alone – is responsible for maintaining over 2,300 km of paved and gravel roads, 500 km of sidewalks, 13,000 streetlights and over 110 traffic signals.  Our PARKS dep’t takes care of over 70 playgrounds, and over 80 outdoors sportsfields.

This week, we celebrate the men and women who quietly make our city stronger every single day.  Your hard work keeps our city safe and running.

Be sure to thank a CITY PUBLIC WORKER this week.
