The City of Thunder Bay is looking to create a strategy for renewing its aging arena infrastructure.

The city government is launching a survey, which runs until June 30, to understand the public’s needs, wants, and priorities when it comes to local arenas.

“Thunder Bay’s arenas are an important part of the community, supporting recreational use, minor and competitive sport, and a variety of events. At the same time, many facilities are aging and require significant investment over the coming years,” said the municipality in a release. “The strategy will help the City plan for the future by aligning facility needs with community priorities, usage patterns, and available resources.”

Through public consultation, the city will create an Arena Facility Renewal Strategy, which will eventually presented to City Council.

Thunder Bay owns and operates six arenas in the city: Fort William Gardens, Neebing Memorial Gardens, Grandview Gardens, Delaney Arena, Current River Arena, and Port Arthur Arena. It also owns the Thunder Bay Tournament Centre, which is run by a third-party.
