Five years on, the Road Angels are still going full throttle.

Thunder Bay’s first all-woman motorcycle club rides every Thursday night and is a regular presence at summer charity events.

“We’ve got all makes and models that goes for the bikes and the women,” said Road Angels founder Mandy Craig. “We have doctors, we have sales reps, we have mechanics, we’re all over the board. All talented ladies. Anyone is welcome.”

Founded in 2021, the Road Angels celebrated half a decade on the road with a busy May. They organized a Mother’s Day ride and were involved with the International Female Ride Day and May Day in the Bay festivities.

Their next event is an annual Ruff Ride on June 28, a motorcycle and BBQ event that raises funds for northern dogs and cats.

Women interested in joining can connect through the Road Angels Facebook page.

“Some of us have been friends for over 20 years, some are making new friendships,” Craig said. “The sisterhood is what it’s all about. Just being able to be around like-minded women.”

Craig said she first fell in love with motorcycles 30 years ago as a passenger.

“I was a young mom, so I could never afford to ride,” she said. “But once my son got older, I started really getting involved with it.”

She encourages women from all walks of life to give bikes a try.

“It’s therapy. At the end of the day, it’s a release. The freedom you get, there’s no words that can describe it.”
